In its quest to boost agricultural development among the Niger Delta communities , the Niger Delta Basin Development Authority (NDBDA) has announced plans to establish a mechanized agricultural project in the Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State.
Engr Tonye David-West, the authority’s managing director , disclosed this in Port Harcourt during visit by Paramount Ruler Emere Joseph Ngeto of the Agbonchia Community and members of the community council of chiefs in his office.
The NDBDA is tasked with developing and managing surface and ground water resources and providing access to safe and adequate water for domestic, industrial, flood control and agricultural purposes so as to enhance citizens’ quality of life.
David-West assured his visitors that the authority’s management would partner with the community to fast-track development, adding that beyond the project, the board would provide potable drinking water for both the people and dry season farming irrigation in Agbonchia.
The director expressed delight with their group’s visit to board headquarters, and assured them that the authority would work to help improve the standard of living for the Agbonchia community.
The NDBDA boss urged Ngeto and his council of chiefs to provide land upon which to establish the mechanized farm and immediately launch the project.
The monarch thanked the NDBDA’s management and staff for their warm reception, noting that his community would be glad to receive the authority and willing to release enough hectares of land in the area for the agricultural project.
